How NOT to get Beat up or Shot at by Police - A Case Example

The cops have been getting a bad wrap lately, so this article has been written to show that there are a lot of god cops out there, just trying to do their job. They don't always deserve the attitude they get from people. There's so much talk nowadays, about police brutality and police shooting and beating people. However, a lot of the time, police are simply trying to do their job and "criminals" wind up having a bad day -- then the cops get the blame.

Firstly, yes, there are some bad cops around. Actually, there are heaps of bad cops around; truly horrible cops, just like in any part of society there are horrible people. There are horrible people working in fast food restaurants, horrible politicians, horrible judges, horrible teachers -- I can go on and on. However, there's something to be said about treating people with respect to be treated with respect.

These two police officers pulled this student over and began asking him questions about where he had been and where he was going etc. The student was cooperative and personable. The police returned that same decorum and respect. However, had the student met them with a belligerent attitude, I can see clearly how this scene could have turned into a problem.

The reason I am promoting this video is that in the back of my mind, while I was watching it, I could literally picture what would/could have happened if the student had've arced up saying: "Is this NAZY Germany?",  "Are you asking for my papers?", "Are you detaining me?", "Then am I free to go?".

Not only did the student record the police, but he got the police to hold the camera and do the recording in front of the police car -- whilst laughing! The whole situation ended with smiles and good will. The student did not get a sticker on his car or a fine for having a tail light out -- and nobody got shot at.

What I am trying to say is:

This is what happens when you treat police with respect. I see a LOT of videos on YouTube where police are being asses - YES, but more often than not the people the police are are being asses to were being asses FIRST, so the cops are simply returning the sentiment (they're human). Some people are all like: "I know my rights", "I am going to record you, I am allowed to you know", "This is a public place", etc.

Moral of the story: If you get pulled over by the police, don't be an ass and they won't shoot you. It's basic human psychology.
